Lund Boats: Jon, Sport, Aluminum Fishing Boats And Prices

Anglers who are in the market for fishing boats will inevitably encounter the Lund brand. The Lund Boat Company of New York Mills, Minnesota, has been manufacturing aluminum fishing boats for over a half-century. During that time, Lund established itself as one of the leaders in their industry.

Lund offers a wide variety of boats to choose from, which they break down into six categories: Sport & Fish, Tournament, Sportsman, Classic, Wilderness and Jon Boat. Each of their boat categories offers different models with a complex array of features.

Of course, the type of boat an angler selects often reflects how much money can be spent on the purchase. Jon boats are the best for those on a tight budget. While this type of watercraft is devoid of frills, it still needs to be constructed properly and with quality materials. Jon boats are available in sizes ranging from 10 to 18 feet, with bench seating for up to six passengers.

These flat-bottomed boats are incredibly stable and easy to operate, but they are not intended for rough water. Nor are they built for speed. Indeed, the largest of the Jon boats is rated for a 45 horsepower engine, and most of their models are rated considerably lower. Those who wish to get around the water quickly will want to consider a different style of Lund boat.

Their Sport & Fish boats are rated for engines between 150 and 275 horsepower, and they are loaded with features. Actually, should an angler exclude the Jon boat models, selecting an aluminum fishing boat is similar to selecting an apartment; the choices are often determined by the layout of the floor plan. Each of the Sport & Fish boat models possesses different seating layouts and storage options, including wells for keeping live bait and caught fish. Prospective buyers need to get inside the crafts to identify the configurations they like best.

The biggest difference between Jon boats and their other boat styles are their hulls. Their Jon boats are the only styles with flat hulls. All of the other styles have V-shaped hulls, and their innovative designs are proprietary to Lund. They are designed to ensure the boat's smooth planing at slow speeds, increased fuel efficiency, and a drier ride at high speeds. In addition to their technological advancements in hull design, Lund double-rivets all of the seams in their boats, which they claim is superior to aluminum boats that are primarily welded together. No matter which type of Lund boat anglers select, the manufacturer stands behind their products with conditional lifetime warranties.

Prices for new boats, aluminum or otherwise, are difficult to assess without going to an authorized Lund dealership. The company's website does not list boat prices. This is likely because boat buyers seldom purchase boats without an engine, anchor, life vests or trailer. However, potential buyers of a Lund aluminum fishing boat can rest assured that the foundation of their purchase is sound.
